Wonderfully Weird Baby Hats

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Welcome to Weird knitting Wednesday! We will explore the wonders of weird knitting projects and patterns that you can find out on the World Wide Web.

It seems to me that all my friends are having babies, so I’ve become acutely aware of patterns for baby hats. Here are a few of the weirder ones.

The Viking hats. Truly wonderful, a boys version and a girls version. Suitable for your favorite LARPing baby

If a regular Viking hat just doesn’t cut it, how about the Chicken Viking hat! It resembles a raw chicken, complete with the little bumps where the feathers used to be. If you don’t want to expose your little one to the dangers of Salmonella, you can cook the bird

Perhaps your baby is being less than a little angel, how about a devil hat for the little brat!

How about a creepy crawly spider hat for the wee one

Make your baby the Prince from Katamari Damacy. Hope that they don’t start rolling up your things to make stars

Breast feeding your spawn? Why not put a boob on their head while they are attached to yours! ( I know the pattern isn’t for a baby but you could adjust it!!! That’s what gauge is for people! I know more than one person who wants this for their new/soon to be born baby)

Fantastic Tattoos

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I had to make a post about this tattoo as soon as I saw it. WOWZERS!

The Dainty Squid uploaded this shot to the Craft Flickr pool and it makes me want a fantastic huge craft tattoo. But man, don’t you think this hurts? I thought the yarn ball I got my wrist was painful, but her tattoo has to be all kinds of uncomfortable. The pay-off is way worth it, though.

This got me thinkin’… what other amazing tattoos in the crafty and geeky veins are out there? So I looked and I learned that are A LOT of people out there with Nintendo-related tattoos. And there are quite a few people out there with crafty tattoos as well. Check out a few pieces of body art that I like:

Old School

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Some old school gaming done in new ways for my first post.

I am going to show off a little, you get to see the Mario Scarf all the time (and rightfully so) but here is my old school gaming knit project, the Space Invader’s Bib.

Tetris is one of those games you can always pick up and enjoy, and brownies are one of those desserts you can always pick up and enjoy, so let’s combine them. I desperately need one of my gamer friends to have a birthday so that I can have an excuse to make these

I remember those classic arcade tables you would find in Pizza parlors and in tiny arcades attached to mini golf huts. I always thought they were neat; you could have a beverage right there WHILE you played the game. Well, Ikea Hacker tells you how to make one of your own.

Hello Mario Scarf Readers!

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Hello All! My name is Emily and I am the new contributor to the Mario Scarf blog!

Cassie thought I should let you all know a little bit about myself. I like to say that I’m a geek in the classic sense; I do IT work, I love computers, I love video games (my DS is always close at hand), I love board games (Settlers of Catan anyone?) I love card games (look up chez geek and munchkin, they rock!) I love Sci-fi/Fantasy (books or movies), I watch anime and read manga, and I knit! I’m even the co-founder of my office’s knitting and crocheting circle!  I also have two cats, Naomi and Smeagol (by far the dumbest cat on the planet ), and a darling husband.

Some of my fave projects in the past year have been my super easy stuffed bunny

Introducing Emily!

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Fun news to announce!!!

A sweet lady by the name of Emily is joining the blog to help me post about nerdiness around the web. Emily calls herself a “traditional nerd” and is also an avid crafter. Emily will be posting on several themes including “weird” knitting and classic geek crafting. She’ll be posting an introductory post about herself this evening and will contribute her first content post on Monday.

Thanks so much for your help Emily!

And remember, if you have ideas for contributions, I am also excepting one or two time posts. Email me or message me on Ravelry if you’re interested.

Holy Moley Macaroni!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

I checked my site stats 5 seconds ago to find that yesterday I had 1,865 visitors and over 3,000 page views. This is 700 visitors more than my busiest day yet. Did someone post about this website recently? I have no idea where so many people came from all of a sudden. It’s awesome and just… wow. Hello to all the new people!

De-Stashing

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Hi everyone. I am in the process of destashing yarn that I’ve had for a long time in an effort to get my craft room TOTALLY organized and in tip-top shape. I’ve already posted these yarns to the Yarncycle Livejournal community, but some of you might be interested. Whoever emails me first gets what they want. I’ll ship everything USPS First Class for free unless you specify that you want it Priority and will pay the base rate of $4.80. I can also make any of these into center pull balls if they aren’t already- just let me know in your email.

I’ll probably make another post of yarn soon, so stayed tuned…

Hello…

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Sorry for my leave of absence. Several things have been going on this week requiring my attention elsewhere. We are introducing a new kitten to our home and it takes some energy adjusting the new cat and the old man, Charlie. So far, so good, but taking it slow.

Also, there is a possibilty that I might get a teaching job starting next Monday (the 22nd) so this week is going to be really slow. I spent several days preparing for the interview and I find out Tuesday if I got the job. If I indeed got the job, I will need several full days to prepare as I a.) have never taught before and b.) am starting five weeks into the semester.

Please have patience and know that I think about you sweet readers all the time. When things get back to normal here, I promise updates galore- and believe me, I’ve got a great surprise.

Mario-Themed Rooms

Monday, September 8th, 2008

For those of you intent on making a big geeky statement in your living spaces, here are two sources of inspiration.

These decals of elements from Super Mario Brothers are certified with an “Official Nintendo Seal.” I really want Jason to get me a pack for my birthday or Christmas so that I can decorate one of the walls in my craft room.

And for someone who really wants to get lost in the world of Mario, check out this room, which looks like it’s some sort of art installation. This room is quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever seen and if I could invest the time, I would seriously consider remodeling my craft room to look like that.

Things are still chugging along in Cassie-Land. I’m working on those charts and will try to post them tomorrow or Wednesday morning, depending on whether my old scanner still works.

I’m still taking emails about contibutions to the blog so if you’ve got ideas, please send them to me at themarioscarf@gmail.com or to knittacassie on Ravelry.

I’m taking the rest of the day to clean so that I can get some serious work done this afternoon. I took yesterday fairly easy after working so hard outside with my dad on Friday and Saturday. It’s amazing the amount of chaos that can happen between two total slobs and a cat in just one day.

Happy Monday to everyone and keep adding yourselves to the Google Map- it’s so cool!
