Cupcakes!

Friday, January 30th, 2009

There have been several wonderful geeky cupcakes hitting my Google Reader.  Who doesn’t like cupcakes!?

Friend of the Blog Renee from The Domestic Scientist made these amazing Guitar Hero cupcakes!  She has promised a tutorial around January 30, so keep an eye on her site!  She is also making a Guitar Hero Scarf that I enjoy quite a bit!

Holy Freaking Crap!  I love Settlers, but this, I don’t even know what to do (check out Emilie’s other stuff at consciouskitchen.net).  I require to do this next time we play Settlers.  REQUIRE!  If I ever play with anyone reading this blog currently, you know what we must do

Anime

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I love anime.  I own three full series and I desire more.  I figured that was an aspect of geekery (otaku to those of you in the know) that had not been represented in Weird knitting yet.  Sadly, most of the anime I watch is not cute, it’s more violent and dark, so Ive struggled to come up with knitting and crocheting from anime I enjoy.

One of the few cute anime I enjoy (and own) is Fruits Basket.  The above cat is Kyo, he is normally a 15 year old boy, but when girl hugs him (or he gets overly stressed out) he turns into a cat, an affliction that 12 of his cousins share, except they turn into other animals.

This is Kyo’s older cousin Ayame.  See, he turns into a snake!  (the actual anime is darker than it sounds)

Soot Sprites!  Super adorable balls of soot!  The are featured in the movie Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki, which I highly recommend as it is crazy and adorable.

Another one of Miyazaki’s movies that I enjoyed is My Neighbor Totoro and this hat is a wonderful representation of Totoro

Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my all time favorite anime, I NEED to own it.  This is an Alphonse Elric hat.  Alphonse’s soul has been sealed to a suit of armor (hence the gray face); him and his brother, Ed, are in search of the Philosopher’s stone to return Al to his rightful body.

I’ve just finished watching Elfin Lied and Ouran High School Host Club, Next on my list are Desert Punk and Code Geass.   My all time favorite anime are FLCL, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Cowboy Bebop

Any other anime fans out there?  What’s your favorite anime?

DnD

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I recently joined a DnD campaign, it was the one of the last realms of geekdom left for me to explore.  I have to admit I’m having a good time!  In our party there are 3 knitters (including myself) so today is for all the DnD knitters out there!

I am currently lacking a dice bag, I’m using the plastic tube the dice came in (much to my Godson’s delight as he can put that in his mouth), but the above dice bag is something I wouldn’t mind having :)

forget your d20?  crochet one!

If you are the type to dress up for your DnD maybe you want to knit some chainmail (cheaper than getting the real thing!)

This is another dice bag, but in the shape of a d4!!  sweet!

I have not fought a beholder yet, my husband says I should be thankful, I believe him.  That doesn’t stop this shoulder beholder from being awesome though!!

Any other DnD knitters out there?

Hodgepodge of geeky crafting

Friday, January 16th, 2009

This last week has been a cornucopia of geeky crafting!  Here are a few more wonderful things I’ve found while surfing around!

This counted cross stitch of the Zelda map makes me want to take up counted cross stitch again!!  It’s epic!  It only took her 4 months too!

The 1up mushroom helmet cover makes me smile!  It makes me want to learn how to ride a bike! (yes, I cannot ride a bike, I’m just not that coordinated)

Shoot the Baddies - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

Not so much a craft, but it is up for vote  on Threadless to become a t-shirt, and it’s pretty awesome.  I’m giving it a $5!

This is the best sackboy pattern I’ve seen, download the PDF for your knitting and gaming pleasure!

Discworld

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

I am a fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series (although I haven’t read nearly enough of them).  A subtle theme in the books is knitting.  There is even an Ank-Morpork knitting guild group on Ravelry!  Here are a few bits of weird Discworld knitting for you!

Discworld itself!  Turtle, elephants, flat round world and all!

Death of Rats!  Is it creepy that I think he’s cute?

This is Flynn the Swamp Dragon

Swamp Dragons (Draco vulgaris) are small, fly badly and tend to explode, due to the generation of various flammable gases in their internal plumbing. They are, in short, dragons as they would have to be in order to work in reality. Swamp dragons are inexplicably popular as pets, and there are a number of different breeds. They will eat and drink anything that can be used as or converted to fuel for fire-breathing (and as such are fond of coal and fuel oil), and they have a corrosive saliva.   — Wikipedia

The Pratchgan!!  The Ank-Morpork Knitters Guild made this afghan for Terry Pratchett.  He greatly appreciated it and giggled at all the squares and the book references they made.

I think my favorite Diskworld book was Hogfather, mostly because Death was featured so prominently and he is my favorite :)

What’s your favorite Diskworld book?

Wii Knitting?

Monday, January 12th, 2009

My friend showed me this craziness over the weekend and I just saw it again this morning

Apparently it’s a Wii knitting game that simulates learning how to knit. Level one is a dishcloth, and level two is a “sensible hat” (which still makes me giggle) and level three is an octopus toaster cover.  Level three seems like a large jump from “sensible hat”, maybe that’s just me, maybe most people make an octopus toaster cover as their third project and I’m just a freak because mine was baby booties.

I’m not sure if/when the game will be available but I’d be willing to rent it.  I’m curious about it but I don’t think I’d want to own it, I can knit for real and make a real octopus toaster cover if I want it.  hmmm, I wonder if I can find that pattern….

More Mario Scarves!

Friday, January 9th, 2009

More Mario themed Scarves are coming out of the woodwork (although none quite as impressive as Cassie’s :) )

I found this one while reading through GeekSugar

I normally play as Dasiy if I’m given a choice (being a brunette and hating the color pink and all) but Peach is probably the most recognized female video game character.  Samus is probably my fave though :)

Who is your favorite female video game character?
